This rugged massif stretches for some 8 kilometers between Carpentras, Vaison la Romaine and Mont Ventoux, and takes its name from the jagged limestone ridges created by erosion. The Dentelles stand out clearly from the landscape amidst olive groves and AOC vineyards, and cloak the deep blue Mediterranean sky in a collar.

The massif, some eight kilometers long, is world-renowned for its climbing walls. It is also renowned for the production of its olive oil, protected by an AOC label, and for the quality of its truffles.

The jewel of Roman Provence, as its name suggests, Vaison-la-Romaine is a town of the highest archaeological interest. On the right bank are two districts, the site of the ancient Roman colony and the contemporary part of Vaison. Archaeological excavations have revealed immense, luxurious Gallo-Roman mansions with elaborate interior layouts. On the left bank, backed by a rocky spur, lies the Haute-Ville, whose origins date back to the 13th century.
The castle is now in ruins, but the Upper Town is a picturesque site well worth a visit.
